We packed and moved from south Texas the week of January 9th. Matt's new company paid for movers who packed and moved us. They were WONDERFUL. For those of you who have never had a company pack you, here are some lessons we learned (this was our first time): (1) They are FAST! Four guys had our entire home packed in boxes in 6 hours. The next day they had everything loaded (including Matt's car (see picture below)) in 6 hours. (2) They pack EVERYTHING including: The broken pieces of makeup in the bathroom drawer, broken toy pieces in the toy chest, empty box in the pantry (you get the idea). Needless to say I will be very thorough when we unpack at our new home. What an opportunity to get rid of more stuff and start fresh...woohoo! (3) They won't lose patience with you when you realize they packed something you needed and then they have to go through various boxes to find it (twice...aaahhhh) (at least our guys didn't, again, they were wonderful).
The moving company had to get a roll back trailer from a wrecker service to come out and assist with the load. Matt's Challenger was to low to the ground to use the ramps. It was pretty cool! Even the neighbors came out to watch.
Our south Texas home was cleared out Wednesday afternoon but we did not close on the house until Friday. Matt, the boys and I lived in an empty house and slept on an air mattress. We made the best of it. We played with the boys' Hot Wheels on the bare hardwood floors, we wrestled in the open carpeted rooms and we played hide-n-seek. I enjoyed it. There were no dishes or clothes to wash because there was no way to do it. I couldn't clean anything because I did not have any solvents, mop or vacuum. No internet, etc.. I was able to just play for a change.
On our way to New Mexico we stopped for a night at my mom's to see family and break up the trip. Here are some pictures of us before we left.
