My sweet 3 year old is becoming more and more aware of words and phrases and how they should be applied. Here are just a few new developments in the past few weeks.
1. I have been on our step stool a lot lately putting items where they belong, sometimes in the top cabinets. Every time I climb up on the ladder Noah says "Mommy, get down!"
2. Any time I make a mistake and Noah catches me or if it directly affects him he will say "Mommy, be careful." For example, I was holding him sitting on the couch today. I was drinking water and I guess I had a hole in my bottom lip and some water dribbled out and got on him. He looked at me, wiped off the water and said "Mommy, be careful!"
3. Lately Noah will occasionally ask me,
Noah: "Mommy, what's the madder (matter)"
Mommy: "Nothing honey, I am fine."
Noah: "Oh, you ok?"
Mommy: "Yes, I am ok; are you ok?"
Noah: "Yeah."
What a sweet check on mommy by her compassionate son!
4. Noah is starting to understand that Jeriah is not allowed to mess with certain items in the house. Noah HATES it when Jeriah gets fussed at so he will try to intervene before Jeriah is caught. He will tell Jeriah, "No, Jria, don't touch it!" If Jria still doesn't listen he will come to me and say "Mommy, tell Jria, don't touch it!" His intention is not to taddle at that point he just wants to diffuse the situation.
5. Finally, my most favorite lately. At times when we are in a public place I will let Noah trail a little ahead of me but I always tell him, "Stay where Mommy can see you." It allows him to have some freedom but it keeps him in a comfortable range for me. The other day we were in line at the post office. Noah started wondering off a few feet ahead. I did not want him walking around then (there were to many people) so I told him, "Noah, come back here." Noah turned to me and with this nonchalant tone says "Mommy, I can see you." Everyone in line laughed knowing exactly what he meant. I appreciated his logic but I still made him stand in line with Jeriah and me.
